Feel the pulsating Rhythm of Africa as you re-live the
excitement and romance of the days of Shaka, King of the
Zulu tribe, in this authentic recreation of the great
kraal overlooking the Umhlatuze lake. Shakaland was originally
build as the set for the internationally acclaimed film,
Shaka Zulu. It has been converted into a Zulu homestead
with thatched beehive houses arranged in a circle around
the central cattle kraal, and, while the accommodation
is also in beehive houses, all the modern conveniences
have been added.
Mealtimes are rather special. The restaurant, which affords
some exceptional views over shimmering lake and hills,
offers authentic cuisine, the delicacies ranging from
uphuthu (maize meal), ubhomubhomu (kidney beans), pumpkin
and spinach, to inyama yenkomo (stew) or inyama eyosiwe
(grilled meat).
