3. Durban Wildlife Tour. (See More)

Umgeni River Bird Park, considered to be a little jewel, is one of the finest bird parks in the world. Free flight bird shows – unique in Africa, with critically endangered species like the Wattle and Blue cranes, as well as owls, storks, hornbills, huge Cape Vulture and African Fish Eagle in free unrestricted flight. Visit the Sharks Board situated in Umhlanga Rocks, north of Durban. The Sharks Board is one of the world’s foremost shark research institutes. Apart from doing research, the Sharks Board maintains the offshore nets along the swimming beaches of KwaZulu Natal. An outing to the Sharks Board is both informative and fascinating with information on the sensory biology of sharks and their role as top predators in the marine food chain.

The annual sardine run on the South Coast of KwaZulu Natal generally occurs during the winter months of June and July. Be part of a phenomenon not seen anywhere else in the world. Countless millions sardines migrate northwards up the coast in gigantic shoals, followed by enormous game fish, dolphins, whales, sharks and sea birds.

Moving inland takes you to the Natal Midlands, which you will pass through either to or from the Drakensberg mountain range and the coast. 8. Mkuze Game Reserve.

Mkuze Game Park has become one of the favourite birding places in South Africa, boasting an incredible 430 bird species. Situated in close proximity of Hluhluwe Game Reserve. A proclaimed protected area since 1912, this predominantly flat and dry reserve with sandy red ridges (which are ancient dunes) harbours an astonishing diversity of natural habitats

For the adventurer this stunning tropical paradise with all year summer climate offers many activities i.e. fishing diving, snorkelling and sailing, as well as tranquillity for those who just like to laze around on quiet tropical beaches and enjoy life

10. Mapumalanga.

Explore the Mpumalanga Escarpment and panoramic Lowveld, a wonderful escape from the stress of city life. Guided tours to sights such as God’s Window and the waterfalls. Visit the quaint and picturesque town of Pilgrims Rest, declared a National Monument and living museum. The find of rich gold deposits in “Pilgrims Creek” triggered the first gold rush in South Africa in 1873. Visit the Shangana cultural village of dignity and rich traditions where you will be welcomed to the homes of the descendants of Chief Soshangana

11. Oribi Gorge.

Experience the panorama of the Oribi Gorge abounding with birdlife that will leave you breathless. For the more adventurous, raft the wild Umzimkulu River or jump off the 170 meter waterfall and swing 90 meters into the Gorge.

It is a magnificent scenic nature reserve, snugly set at the head of a spectacular river gorge just inland of Port Shepstone. Oribi is the ideal place for a quiet getaway, and offers many delightful walks and self-guided trails. The breathtaking scenery along the Umzimkulwana River Gorge is a photographer's and nature lover's paradise, and numerous idyllic picnic spots on the river banks of the river give hikers a chance to take regular breaks in this spectacular setting. The Oribi Gorge bird list shows 250 recorded species including Cape Vulture, Crowned Eagle, African Finfoot, Ground Hornbill, Knysna Woodpecker, and African Broadbill. Habitats include wooded grassland, rocky cliffs, and evergreen scarp forest fringing fast-flowing streams. This is also home to the Samango Monkey, (Southern Explorer logo) and the Oribi Antelope after which the reserve is named.


The visitors camp commands an awe inspiring view of Oribi Gorge has 2-bed rest huts, a 7-bed chalet and a 10-bed cottage, as well as a campsite.
